Sarah McClung

RP (Qualifying)

Hi, I'm Sarah! I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) supporting children, adolescents, and young adults.

I work with clients navigating concerns such as anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, emotional regulation, family conflict, and relationship challenges. I also have experience supporting individuals with ADHD, Autism, and developmental differences, including building executive functioning skills like organization, time management, and follow-through.

Through my clinical work at Prioritize Wellness, I've particularly enjoyed working with teens, many of whom come to therapy feeling hesitant, uncertain, or unsure of what to expect. I take the time to build trust and meet each client where they're at, which often helps even the most reluctant clients begin to feel more comfortable opening up.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. I adapt each session to fit the individual in front of me, taking into account their age, developmental level, personality, interests, and strengths, so therapy never feels one-size-fits-all. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based strategies, using creative and play-based interventions with younger clients, and practical, evidence-informed strategies with clients of all ages. I focus on helping clients better understand their emotions, build coping skills, improve communication, and develop confidence.

My goal is to create a space where young people feel supported, understood, and empowered as they navigate challenges and build resilience.

Sarah holds a Master of Science in Psychotherapy from McMaster University and is a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

AREA OF FOCUS

  • Autism and neurodiversity-affirming support

  • Anxiety

  • Emotional regulation

  • Self-esteem, self-confidence, and identity development

  • Perfectionism and self-criticism

  • Peer, family, and interpersonal relationship challenges

I understand that starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, or even intimidating, especially for children and teens, and I never expect anyone to walk in already knowing what to say or share. Building trust is where I always start, and I let that trust grow at a pace that feels right for each client. My approach is collaborative, creative, and practical; I adapt every session to fit the person in front of me, taking into account their age, personality, interests, strengths, and goals, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. When I work with children and teens, I also value appropriate parent involvement, because meaningful progress often happens through collaboration, not in isolation. More than anything, I want clients and families to walk away from our work together with a better understanding of what they're experiencing, along with practical strategies they can actually use in their everyday lives.
